Lifestyle Entrepreneurs are entrepreneurs who all have something in common.

They believe that their lifestyle is as important as are their financial results. They stay motivated and focused in their business because they truly love what they are doing. They keep the balance in life and work and reap the rewards by helping others. They are becoming the next generation of leaders in a world with a growing numbers of entrepreneurs.Fast Growing Trends in Entrepreneurship

According to a recent article by P. Hise (Fortune, 2007) the U.S Small Business Administration, SBA, had found that nearly 675,000 new companies were formed in 2005. At the same time, the Bureau of Labor Statistics concluded that the first half of 2006 saw more businesses being created than the first half of 2005.

Talking about a fast growing trend…

Yahoo Media Relations last year released a study in which it was found that 75% of the people interviewed wanted to start a company someday. About 50% wants to do so in the next five years. “The survey results suggest that entrepreneurial aspirations are rooted among the vast majority of the American public.” according to the report.

Entrepreneurs or Employees

Sometime ago I was watching a TV interview of the famed music mogul Quincy Jones. He was speaking very eloquently and with a degree of passion regarding his business pursuits.  He spoke in a fashion that made his business interest seem very cool, hip and even sexy. He then framed it all into one simple declaration; I am an entrepreneur.I then said to myself, “I’m going to be an entrepreneur”. Mr. Jones enrolled me into becoming this word we call entrepreneur. Now my definition of entrepreneur at the time was someone who started businesses, created new products and concepts, made things happen and lived an exciting life. When I was a young boy my father used to make me read the dictionary so that I would expand my vocabulary. So I decided to look the word up and here is the definition I found. One who organizes, manages, and assumes the risks of a business or enterprise. No I said to myself, this couldn’t be right! Merriam-Webster’s has it wrong. An entrepreneur is a take the bull by the horns person, an innovator and business leader. Further I read that an entrepreneur assumes the risks and/or liabilities of a business. Baloney I thought, the dictionary has it wrong.Well some years later I started my first business and along with that hired a business attorney. He proceeded to tell me all the ways I could be sued or get into problems with state governments even if I was doing nothing wrong. He would tell me how I needed to manage my risks and liabilities. (As a side note in the 2-½ years I ran that first business till I sold it I never had one legal problem).I then recalled reading the definition of the word entrepreneur. Hmmm I thought, well I guess the old dictionary was right. But I was right too. An entrepreneur can be all of the things I’ve stated as well as assuming the risks associated with being in business.Entrepreneur or Employee?                                                          We have now entered 2009 and many of you need to make that decision. Not everyone is cut out to be a risk taker and become an entrepreneur. So the alternative is to go out and get a nice, safe and secure job. But alas my friends because having a nice, safe and secure job is now an oxymoron. Therefore being employed is taking a risk as well.  The era of working for a company for 30 years and retiring with the gold watch is over, gone, done.Who could have ever have imagined that companies like GM, AIG, Citigroup and others could be near collapse. Or that giant Wall Street firms Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns would cease to exist. My point is obvious, whether you embrace entrepreneurship or employment, either way you are a risk taker.

So what could this writer possibly have in common with Donald Trump, one might ask? Well, not much at all other than the fact that we are both entrepreneurs. Admittedly, the Donald is much more successful at this point than I, but I take some comfort in the realization that Donald is significantly older than I, and that he has been involved in business for some time longer than most of us.

This piece will focus on the characteristics and traits that make up a significant part of what a successful entrepreneur is and does. Somewhere along the line, Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki (investor and prominent author of the Rich Dad, Poor Dad book series), and countless others like them made the conscious decision to step outside the box and take direct responsibility for their own successes and failures. Obviously not every venture one becomes involved with will be wildly successful (Trump has filed bankruptcy on particular businesses that didn’t fare so well in the past). If one has ever had the notion that he or she will never be content working for someone else and possesses the majority of the following characteristics, he or she may have an entrepreneur inside, dying to get out.

The technologies of the information come modifying the form of interaction between people, shortening ways, or diminishing the distances. These interactions can be between individuals themselves and them and a machine. Since the telephone, until the email, that is a cheaper case, it has been available for the user a series of communications instruments facilitating these interactions. It has two important concepts in this process: interaction and interactive process. The interaction can be defined as a reciprocal action between citizens that can be direct or indirect, mediated for some communication technician vehicle, as for example letter or telephone.Interactive process is a term that comes indistinctly being used with two different meanings, in generally confused: for one hand, the technical power offered for determined way, as for example, CD-ROMS of consultation, general hyperlink or computers games, and by the other hand the human activity of the user to act on the machine, and to receive in exchange a retraction from the machine itself. In the global world work, emergent trend mainly from the fall of the wall of Berlin, in 1989, has a job reduction and grows the business opportunities for entrepreneur, or who search for to be owner of the proper business. The challenge for this increasing population mass is to be professional, learning new abilities, mainly in this market of high competitiveness. In such a way, the learning situations are significant for the new professional. Where to find them? Are there geographical and financial accessible? These situations can be given in classrooms, not in formal institutions of education properly said, but in enterprise environments, basically. The schools, I say university, teach processes, methodologies, but they have said little regarding the relation human being, basic in any company. On the other hand, these situations of learning can be given at a distance also. Here the messages are less subjective and social affective. But it is possible yes to have exchange of information, what it means to admit the learning. The objective of this article is to reflect on the following investigation: front to these global changes, which is the education ideal learning, in view of the entrepreneur formation? In the situations of enterprise learning, the interaction does not exist only between entrepreneur and instructional material, entrepreneurs between itself, entrepreneurs and tutor, entrepreneurs and education institution. It is also given between the elements that compose the universe of the entrepreneur, such as the history of life, family, work, social class and other groups that he or she belongs.Ahead of the diversity, it is necessary attention to value the differences, to stimulate ideas, opinions and attitudes, to develop the capacity to learn to think, as well as taking the entrepreneur to get the conscientious control of the learned one, holding it back and to know to apply it in another context. It is observed then that in the distance between the entrepreneur and necessary knowledge to its success, is not only one physical, but psychological, sociological, cultural, economic, also philosophical space, among others. The entrepreneur is himself who take action to get its proper knowledge now days. Beyond dominating some knowledge, its responsibility and sense of community to this knowledge is vital for its success. In other words, the change of entrepreneur attitude will be basic for the change of the system. New progress criteria are in game, based in the self trust human development and growth.

“Women” as Entrepreneurs in India:
Women owned businesses are highly increasing in the economies of almost all countries. The hidden entrepreneurial potentials of women have gradually been changing with the growing sensitivity to the role and economic status in the society. Skill, knowledge and adaptability in business are the main reasons for women to emerge into business ventures.‘Women Entrepreneur’ is a person who accepts challenging role to meet her personal needs and become economically independent. A strong desire to do something positive is an inbuilt quality of entrepreneurial women, who is capable of contributing values in both family and social life. With the advent of media, women are aware of their own traits, rights and also the work situations. The glass ceilings are shattered and women are found indulged in every line of business from pappad to power cables. The challenges and opportunities provided to the women of digital era are growing rapidly that the job seekers are turning into job creators. They are flourishing as designers, interior decorators, exporters, publishers, garment manufacturers and still exploring new avenues of economic participation. In India, although women constitute the majority of the total population, the entrepreneurial world is still a male dominated one. Women in advanced nations are recognized and are more prominent in the business world. But the Indian women entrepreneurs are facing some major constraints like –
a) Lack of confidence – In general, women lack confidence in their strength and competence. The family members and the society are reluctant to stand beside their entrepreneurial growth. To a certain extent, this situation is changing among Indian women and yet to face a tremendous change to increase the rate of growth in entrepreneurship.
b) Socio-cultural barriers – Women’s family and personal obligations are sometimes a great barrier for succeeding in business career. Only few women are able to manage both home and business efficiently, devoting enough time to perform all their responsibilities in priority.
c) Market-oriented risks – Stiff competition in the market and lack of mobility of women make the dependence of women entrepreneurs on middleman indispensable. Many business women find it difficult to capture the market and make their products popular. They are not fully aware of the changing market conditions and hence can effectively utilize the services of media and internet.
d) Motivational factors – Self motivation can be realized through a mind set for a successful business, attitude to take up risk and behavior towards the business society by shouldering the social responsibilities. Other factors are family support, Government policies, financial assistance from public and private institutions and also the environment suitable for women to establish business units.
e) Knowledge in Business Administration – Women must be educated and trained constantly to acquire the skills and knowledge in all the functional areas of business management. This can facilitate women to excel in decision making process and develop a good business network.
f) Awareness about the financial assistance – Various institutions in the financial sector extend their maximum support in the form of incentives, loans, schemes etc. Even then every woman entrepreneur may not be aware of all the assistance provided by the institutions. So the sincere efforts taken towards women entrepreneurs may not reach the entrepreneurs in rural and backward areas.
g) Exposed to the training programs – Training programs and workshops for every type of entrepreneur is available through the social and welfare associations, based on duration, skill and the purpose of the training program. Such programs are really useful to new, rural and young entrepreneurs who want to set up a small and medium scale unit on their own.
h) Identifying the available resources – Women are hesitant to find out the access to cater their needs in the financial and marketing areas. In spite of the mushrooming growth of associations, institutions, and the schemes from the government side, women are not enterprising and dynamic to optimize the resources in the form of reserves, assets mankind or business volunteers.
Highly educated, technically sound and professionally qualified women should be encouraged for managing their own business, rather than dependent on wage employment outlets. The unexplored talents of young women can be identified, trained and used for various types of industries to increase the productivity in the industrial sector. A desirable environment is necessary for every woman to inculcate entrepreneurial values and involve greatly in business dealings. The additional business opportunities that are recently approaching for women entrepreneurs are:
• Eco-friendly technology
• Bio-technology
• IT enabled enterprises
• Event Management
• Tourism industry
• Telecommunication
• Plastic materials
• Vermiculture
• Mineral water
• Sericulture
• Floriculture
• Herbal & health care
• Food, fruits & vegetable processing
Empowering women entrepreneurs is essential for achieving the goals of sustainable development and the bottlenecks hindering their growth must be eradicated to entitle full participation in the business. Apart from training programs, Newsletters, mentoring, trade fairs and exhibitions also can be a source for entrepreneurial development. As a result, the desired outcomes of the business are quickly achieved and more of remunerative business opportunities are found. Henceforth, promoting entrepreneurship among women is certainly a short-cut to rapid economic growth and development. Let us try to eliminate all forms of gender discrimination and thus allow ‘women’ to be an entrepreneur at par with men.
