What was supposed to be a swanky Summit Avenue fundraiser for Sen. Al Franken on Thursday was abruptly canceled when Franken discovered that the host of the event served a year in prison for swindling some northern Minnesotans. Mark Erjavec, who describes himself as an entrepreneur specializing in distressed real estate, may be a newcomer to the political scene but he is well known in the courtroom. Besides the 1997 theft by swindle conviction, the 33-year-old Erjavec has faced over $100,000 in tax liens and civil judgments.

I’m in the Portland Airport writing from my new iPhone (which I love). We are just leaving town after hosting a LivePitch event here in conjunction with PortlandTen, NedSpace, Stoel Rives, and Lunch2.0. We had around 125 people in attendance and saw 5 pretty awesome companies pitch. I love these events. I love seeing the passion of the entrepreneur in action. I love to see the vulture and variety that is so apparent in various cities throughout the US.

Preparing for success is a process that may take longer than you think. It seems that with any worthwhile endeavor, there are things to accomplish that take you much longer than you had planned for. Some people would have you believe that being an Internet entrepreneur is a simple thing to do and that being successful at it is a cinch. Just got done watching the new Tony Robbins video with Frank Kern and John Reese. It was really good. A lot of great meat in there. Here’s the question I kept asking myself: Are you a creator of value or a consumer of value? In other words, are you the one making the videos or are you the one just watching them? Throughout the whole video, I could really relate to the issue Frank and John brought up at the beginning. How so many of their customers never follow through and take action to build their dreams.
