Local Businesses Start Up Funding

If you plan to start up a small business, but aren’t sure how you will finance such a venture, then you might want to consider applying for a grant. You might need more money than you will get from applying for a small business loan.  It all depend on the type of business you plan, the start-up cost could be significant. One way to get the needed money is by looking into the grants available in your community for new local businesses.

When looking for a grant to start a small business, begin by checking with your local Chamber of Commerce. This organization will have information about any grants that are available for starting up local businesses. Helping new businesses come into the community, not only helps the entrepreneur who is opening the business, it also helps the community. Many people, especially in smaller towns, have to travel out of town to find work. Having a new business open in that community would mean jobs for those people, who would otherwise have to look elsewhere.

You may be thinking, “But I live in a small community, where would the grant funds come from?” The money can be funded by the Federal Government, and it is referred to as a Community Development Block Grant Loan Program. The county you live in can apply to the Government for a grant to fund these types of programs. The money is then used to offer low interest loans to local businesses, such as yours, to get them started. There is usually a stipulation that the business must hire individuals who live in the area.

The Chamber of Commerce may be able to give the needed information about where to apply for the grants to help start up local businesses, in case there are no grants available in your area. Keep in mind that these grants are given to communities mostly by Government agencies, which may be given to you in the form of a loan. These loans normally carry a much lower interest rate than you would get from a bank. They are given specifically to help small businesses grow, as well as to help the community grow.
