They should know how to run a business. That helps.
I have worked for many companies, large or small. All the employees in every office always complain about the bosses, making negative comments all the time. It seems what the employees complain about is what makes entrepreneurs successful.
In today’s world which is “flat”, staying at least a step ahead of the masses is very important. Maintaining a vast network of human connections is also vital.
Have a clear vision. Be brave in decision making, as sometimes it could just be a gut feel, so belief. And yes, need to know how a business work and how to make money.
